The Sattal Bird Photography Tour begins on Day 1 at Sattal and concludes on Day 5 at Sattal.
Day 1: Arrival & First Birding Session – Sattal
Arrive at Sattal by noon and check into your cozy lodge nestled among pine and oak forests. After a delicious lunch and a short orientation, set out for your first birding walk around the lakeside trails.
As the afternoon light shimmers across the water, look out for Red-billed Leiothrix, Rufous-chinned Laughingthrush, and colorful flycatchers.
Return by evening for dinner and unwind as your mentor shares stories about Himalayan bird photography and forest ecology.
Day 2: Exploring Sattal & Chafi
Begin your morning with steaming tea and a walk through Studio Point, one of the region’s best birding hotspots. Capture species like the Himalayan Bulbul, Rusty-cheeked Scimitar Babbler, and Sunbirds glowing in the morning light.
After breakfast, continue exploring Sattal’s forested trails. In the afternoon, visit Chafi, a quiet riverside birding area famous for Forktails, Brown Dippers, and Wagtails.
Return by dusk for a relaxed group discussion, reviewing images and techniques over dinner.
Day 3: Shyamkhet – Ramghat – Pangot
Rise early and head to Shyamkhet and Ramghat, regions known for their Himalayan Vultures, Crested Kingfishers, and rare thrushes. After breakfast, transfer to Pangot, a peaceful hamlet surrounded by oak and rhododendron forests.
Spend the evening birding around Pangot, with chances to spot Cheer Pheasants, Himalayan Owls, and other high-altitude species.
If weather permits, join your mentor for an optional night walk, where the forest comes alive with the calls of nocturnal birds.
Day 4: Pangot – Return to Sattal
Start the day with a birding walk in Pangot, searching for Koklass Pheasant, Rufous-bellied Woodpecker, and Black-headed Jay. After breakfast, drive back to Sattal for an evening session dedicated to exploring hidden birding trails or revisiting your favorite hides for that perfect shot.
Enjoy your final group dinner surrounded by the calm and cool air of the Himalayas.
Day 5: Final Birding & Departure – Sattal
