Itinerary – 3 Days of Bird Photography in Thattekad
Day 1: Arrival & First Birding Walk
Arrive at Thattekad by noon and check into your serene riverside lodge amidst lush greenery. After a delicious lunch, embark on your first guided birding walk through the sanctuary’s vibrant forest trails.
Spot some of Thattekad’s iconic species such as the Malabar Trogon, Grey Hornbill, and Scarlet Minivet. As dusk falls, return for dinner and a relaxed evening session with your photography mentor, who will share tips and insights about the region’s birdlife.
Depending on conditions, an optional night walk may be organized to observe nocturnal species such as nightjars and frogmouths.
Day 2: Full-Day Birding & Photography
Start your day early to the forest’s melodic dawn chorus. Explore a variety of habitats—from evergreen woods to riverbanks and grasslands—with opportunities to spot Sri Lanka Frogmouths, Ceylon Bay Owls, and the elusive Indian Pitta.
Breakfast and lunch will be served in the field or at the lodge to ensure maximum birding time. In the evening, participate in an image review session with your mentor followed by a traditional Kerala-style dinner by the riverside.

Day 3: Final Morning Walk & Departure
